Which Lollies To Gift This Easter

What good is a holiday season without gift baskets stuffed with lollies? They may have a different name around the world but that doesn’t hamper its popularity factor. Children and adults all around the globe love to indulge in candies. Although there isn’t any specific moment when lollies are eaten but Easter has become the second highest candy eating time of the year. The reason why people associate this festive season with devouring in sweets is that it’s a happy and caring time. This season is associated with goodness and cultivating the spirit of a new beginning.

Although there are plenty treats to choose from but some of the popular ones for the festive season are:

1. Jellybeans: These sweets were in high demand in America way before they became an Easter treat. They are sold in glass jars and look pretty sitting in the windows of candy shops all over the country. It was not their vibrant colors rather it was their egg-like shape that made them an Easter attraction. Tradition holds that an Easter bunny is supposed to bring eggs which carry the symbol of fertility.  They come in a variety of fruit-based flavors and there is one for all. Favorites for the Easter season are cherry flavored jellybeans. Next in line of popularity are the grape, lime and strawberry. They are small in size much like a red kidney bean. Their outer shell is hard but they have a soft chewy center. History holds that they were first manufactured by a Boston candy maker with the name of William Schraft. It was William who promoted these candies by insisting masses to send them to Union soldiers at the time of Civil War. And this is how they became a standardized gift to give on Easter.

2. Chocolate: The genius behind the irresistible chocolate drink is Montezuma. Who would have thought that this cocoa drink would have the world tossed over and a time would come when people would go crazy over chocolate. Hands down this is the number one sweet eaten during the Easter season. It was the early 1800s when the egg made its first appearance in Germany and France. It wasn’t too late when this mouth-watering treat gained immense following throughout Europe. It started from solid eggs and followed by hollow ones. 19th century saw the advent of chocolate eggs and by 20th century there were selling like hot cakes.  It was inevitable that these goodies were to become a preferred Easter gift. Chocolate makers soon got on the bandwagon and came up with some enticing treats such as chocolate bunnies, birds, chicks and what not. Today chocolate eggs are made in millions over the Easter season.

3. Peeps: Easter, as we understand, is a time of reincarnation. And it’s symbolic representation is given by Peeps. These yummy treats are basically lollipops made from marshmallows and corn syrup. Mostly found in the form of three-dimensional having a yellow color. With time, manufacturers came up with a variety of shapes and colors.

Chocolates may be everyone’s favorite but lollies have also jumped on the bandwagon. And these are a favorite of children and adults alike.
